The town of Newington is located in Screven County, which was created by an act of the Georgia Legislature on December 14, 1793. The history of Newington included a railroad depot where trading of merchandise took place, drugstore, doctor's office, and several mercantile stores. 

Today, Newington boast a low crime rate, a multi-million dollar communication company, Planters Telephone, a bank, salon and a Dollar General store.  Newington is a great place to live and raise a family.
